Daily writing prompt
What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like?

Morning routines are there whether we see them or not, we all do things that make our lives smoother and easier to deal with on a daily basis.

Mine is simple,

  1. Roll out of bed
  2. Get coffee brewing (usually instant and dare I say I am an international roast kinda girl.)
  3. Make the bed, get dressed, and stare at the “yoga” mat sitting in the parallel room.
  4. Drink a little more coffee before sitting peacefully on the mat and just taking that moment to see how I am feeling, listening to the kids fuss and play as they are making their way out to the breakfast table.
  5. Tune into my favorite morning “yoga teacher” which depending on the day is My Health Yoga TV or Boho Beautiful TV.
  6. Stretch and relax for the next 20-60 minutes before floating out to hear the kids ask for porridge to be made “Dad can’t do it, mum, it doesn’t taste right”
  7. Make the kids some porridge and myself a wonderful smoothie for ultimate energy, warming, protein, vitamins & minerals.
  8. Get ready to start the day with kids homeschooling lessons and some cooking to keep the hungry children calm.

There it is a morning routine that didn’t take a lot to figure out because I do it nearly every morning and have done it for nearly 30 years (besides the coffee part, it used to be green tea).

So do our morning routines define our abilities to step outside ourselves and get our freedom, or do they control us like an addiction to substances unseen??

I suppose it would depend on the personality in question, for myself, I have completed my teacher training through My Health Yoga with Carrie-Anne Fields so she has been a big influence in my yoga journey over the last 10 years.

Boho Beautiful, that was one in the last 5 years that I started due to an injury, and with her personal experience with back injuries, I had faith that I wouldn’t worsen my own condition.

The coffee, oh boy, is a lifelong journey from great-grandmother to me and does have a slight addictive component that is unlikely to move on unless I really try (which, I won’t because I REALLY LOVE COFFEE).

Kids are a part of your routine no matter whether they are homeschooled or in bricks-and-mortar school so can’t really be an addition or something to remove from your daily programming…

The daily yoga keeps me tuned into my spiritual side and makes me a better mother, wife, and friend.

Getting out of bed is a program that we do ourselves depending on jobs, family, travel, schooling, etc. It’s a necessary part of our lives and the programming of it comes down to what our lives entail.

So with all the above said, we could change at any moment our programming for the general morning routines that we have, but do we really want to???
