Off-Grid camping on the Pacific Coast of NSW.

Camping in NSW is such an amazing activity to take the kids on and along the Pacific Coast of NSW are some of the best Off-Grid camping spots that we have experienced recently.

Along the coast between Port Macquarie and the Clarence coast, we have camped off the grid in some beautiful wildlife-filled areas.

Some of the places that are some of our top spots are.

  1. Little Murray River Campground – Pets allowed, $=free, and plenty of swimming and fishing around. Located in North Dorrigo NSW
  2. Boyd River campground – Pet friendly, $=free, fishing, swimming, kayaking, and just a lovely place to walk and enjoy the bird life in a rural area.
  3. Thungutti campground (Ebor) – This place has amenities which were a surprise with a BBQ area and drinking water, it is a National park managed area so it has beautiful wildlife coming and going as you enjoy the bushland around.
  4. Dalmorton camping area (West of Grafton)- Pets are great although locals tend to get roused if your dogs chase cattle so please respect the locals, $ free, fishing, camping, kayaking, bushwalking, bird watching, relaxation also BBQ equipment is available. This is a drive on a dirt road that depends on the maintenance schedule at the time and how good it is.

Some places that need booking include.

  1. Brushy Mountain campground (Port Macquarie)- There are only 12 campgrounds on this site and you do need to book ahead. There are no powered sites, but camping in Tents, a camper trailer, or beside your vehicle is great (we have used tents and camper trailers). There are Tables and BBQ facilities and toilets, but bring water for cooking and drinking and also firewood. The campsites themselves are free but the booking fee is $6.
  2. Gumma Reserve campground (Warrell Creek NSW) – Council maintained and not the most scenic, but you can take the kayak to take a glide up to where Warrell creeks meet the Nambucca River. There are toilets and pets are allowed. Fishing, walking, and camping are great with reasonably level sites. Fees are payable but bookings are not taken and rangers collect fees which are around $20 a night.
  3. Hungry Gate Campground (Hat Head) – Pets are not allowed and cost $5 per person, Bring water, firewood, and a camp toilet, and as no tables bring one as well… This is a totally off-the-grid camp spot which means bring what you need. Fishing is GREAT, kayaking is good and the area is 2wd accessible. No bookings are needed. Bird watching is EPIC.

There are so many other spots up and down the coast that I haven’t mentioned, these are the ones that we have stayed at this year as it is and enjoyed greatly….

As time goes on I will add more to this list of great Off the grid camping spots that are family, and pet friendly along with the best fishing, kayaking, photography and hiking spots.
