Trading 5 stars for a million star campout.

Traveling is something that everybody wants to do, few people get to do it and the lucky ones get to do it all the time.

We are not one of those lucky families that get to travel all the time, we get to do it sometimes however for our own reasons the full-time travel would make us feel unlucky.

We have commitments where we are that we can’t leave. Having our goats is a major tie, our farm and we have other things that we just don’t want to remove from our lives to pursue full time on the road.

Stuart and I have talked about whether or not we would love to be on the road full time, we both came to the conclusion that for us personally two weeks to a month is our maximum time away from home.

Our home is where our hearts are, we love our little piece of bushland and the grass has never been greener than in our own paddock. This reason is enough to tell us that full-time travel isn’t something we would pursue.

In saying all that, we LOVE to travel to remote out-of-the-way places that others wouldn’t even think to head to, the off-the-beaten-track places where the fishing is epic, the hiking is spectacular and the camps are a million stars.

Our campout is simple, no big screen TV, no fancy kitchen, and no innerspring mattresses for us. Just our old camper trailer, a few swags, or just a tent with the sleeping bags is our way to go.

We have tried the larger, comfier vans but they had extra things that we simply didn’t need (this is all of cause personal opinion, not a judgment).

We love to have our open fire and billy on the coals, our potatoes in the hot coals on the side as the stew and damper cook in the camp ovens.

Our family loves the places we are visiting where the destination is not the end, the destination is the adventure that leads us to our camp for each night we are away.

Fun times at a place we got to stay, a place that wasn’t our original destination but ended up being a whole week fishing, camping, fun, and family

So many people tell us they are heading to – – – and it will take them 12 hrs to drive there, that’s great for them, for us however we see the 12 hrs as a part of the journey and if a trail along the way beckons us we take it.

This is why when we travel out our maps are simply there as a “just in case we get lost” and yes we know that we want to go here or there, but if here or there doesn’t make it this time it may next time because we found something, somewhere that we wanted, needed, had to see and took us off the path of the original journey to a new destination.

What would be something I would say to others wanting to travel? Well, don’t be part of the blueberry effect be original, others will copy but you did it your way and that wasn’t mass-producing blueberries like everyone else.

Go out, have fun, and travel or journey your way. go places that aren’t on the map and take your time feeling free to go another day to the place you planned because the one you want to visit on that road right now is exactly where the universe wants you to head for some unknown reason.

Travel shouldn’t be about stress, it should be simple and satisfying no matter what your style is.

So get out there and enjoy whatever adventure you feel like taking and I look forward to hearing and seeing all about that “road less traveled” that you took.

Happy travels everyone and keep the smiles alive.
