Barrelling down the dirt-road..

Long before the curvy, soft allure of bitumen there was dirt, dirt and more dirt roads than you could count.

The feeling is excitement, nerves and adventure as you drive from bitumen to dirt track.

Searching for dirt roads to drive in NSW is getting a little harder than before, but you can still find them if you look hard enough (or have that adventurous soul that makes you take that turn that most wouldn’t).

Freshly graded dirt road – that view is satisfying.

Over the past few years Stuart, myself and the four kids travelled many dirt roads and the ones in these pictures are now covered in the black stuff.

An adventure on a dirt road gives you a place that not many others venture, it allows you to pull up and smell the gun trees and slow down more than the hustle and bustle of the big black.

As we hit the dirt roads of areas unknown, unexplored a sense of excitement rises within your soul, unexplained but thrilling at the same time.

Gun barrel straight with a slight kick.

Seeing the road stretch out in front of us and seeing the endless dirt surrounded by trees, rivers, grasslands and the wildlife along the way sends the cameras a clicking in the car.

Every dirt road has, side tracks. These are never in good condition and with the pot holes, corrugation, gullies and rises everywhere and the sense of adventure is heightened.

Have you ever had that wonderment “what’s over the other side, what’s over the ridge, is there a waterfall around the next bend.

Well that is us, forever wandering and like excited school children pushing further in and looking for more.

Another bend on the road to adventure.

The adventures taken on those outback or inland dirt-roads really help you also appreciate the early settlers and the way they must have travelled throughout the country.

They are not always easy, but with this in mind there is always something to see.

Our wildlife in Australia off the tracks is calm and just happy to stop and watch you as you pass by or stop and they even pose for the odd photo.

I could continue to expound the virtues of travelling on the dirt roads of Australia but I think considering the photos that I have added (okay, I could have added loads more).

We as a family really love to travel the roads that are off the road and the tracks that we find can be 4wd tracks or for just hiking out into.

The adventure is the excitement that we are after so the more out of the way the more pleasure we get, the wilder the area and the drive the more excited we become.

For anyone searching for a wild and crazy adventure that is out of the normal scope of travel, come and travel our way by hitting the many dirt-roads of Australia.

Bucket list item is a must on a Dirt road with the family….
